Kendall Gold Mine Reclamation Project

The Kendall mine produced 300,000 ounces of gold and 135,000 ounces of silver from 1989 through 1996. Atna's subsidiary, CR Kendall conducted ongoing reclamation while the Kendall Mine was operating, completing total or partial backfilling of five of the six pits from which ore was extracted. As mine area and non-ore rock facilities were completed, re-contouring, topsoil spreading, and re-vegetation with native grasses, shrubs, and trees took place. More than 200,000 trees and shrubs have been planted in the course of this reclamation.

In 1996 With the help of local biologists, CR Kendall developed a program to reintroduce the endangered peregrine falcon at the Kendall Mine in Montana. The program was successful and the falcons can still be spotted today.
The Kendall Mine permit area covers approximately 1,040 acres of which 448 were disturbed during mining operations. As of December 31, 2009 a total of 370 acres or approximately or 83 percent of the disturbed area has been reclaimed.

During current ongoing biologic studies a variety of raptors have been sighted on the property including kestrels, red-tailed hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, and the occasional golden eagle as well as the peregrine falcon. There are also a number of mammals including mule deer and elk and more rarely black bear and mountain lion. Reclamation activities are ongoing and water management and treatment facilities have been installed.
